Obituary

Vernon Leroy "Roy" Hodo III of Mansfield, Texas, peacefully entered into God's Kingdom at his home on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the age of 74.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024, Azle First Assembly of God, 1020 Southeast Pkwy, Azle, Texas 76020.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request, contributions can be made to the family to assist with medical bills.

Roy was born on April 11, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas, to Vernon Hodo Jr. and Frances Millican Hodo. He was raised in Euless, Texas where he attended L.D. Bell High School. Roy worked for AT&T for 35 years before retiring as an engineer. He continued to work as a contractor for AT&T after retirement, eventually working for SolaRay Engineering until April 2023.

Roy was a kind, compassionate and tender-hearted man who loved the Lord and prayed over his family constantly. He was extremely generous and would do anything to help others. He loved serving in the church and traveling to Israel so he could "walk where Jesus walked."

On a church trip to Israel in 1984, Roy was finally able to swoon his future wife and the love of his life, Janelda. The two had met before the trip and Janelda initially thought he was a bit of a dork, but Roy quickly won her over with his undeniable kindness, chivalry, charm and sense of humor. Roy and Janelda were married on December 18, 1984, combining their two families into one. They built a beautiful life together in Mansfield, Texas, where they lived for more than 30 years.

In his spare time, Roy enjoyed camping and cruising with his family and friends, singing in the church choir, dabbling in sound engineering and reading a good book. He was also a jokester who loved to make people laugh, especially his adoring children and grandchildren. He was dearly loved and respected by all who knew him. It was his life's purpose and joy to serve the Lord and his family in everything he did.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and in-laws, Leo and Merle Grubbs.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Janelda Hodo; four children: Lee Hodo (Gay Lynn), Jeremy Hodo (Jennifer), Chris Morton (Jordan) and Melissa Bohne (Seth); nine grandchildren: Chandler Wammack (Evan), Sydney Burge (Brandon), Braxton and Carter Hodo, Evan, Judson and Morgan Bohne, Zachary Daniels and Ellis Morton; one great-grandchild: Lainey Burge; six sisters: Mary Hodo, Ruth Hodo, Margie Hutt (Mike), Shirley Beaty, Sherry Siler (Mark) and Temple Jones (Milton); step-mother, Delores Hodo; his aunt, Reta Ray; as well as many nieces and nephews.
