Obituary

Vivian Surber Courtney passed away peacefully Saturday, November 15, 2014, at the age of 93. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Biggers Funeral Home. Vivian was born July 10, 1921, in Fort Worth. She was a graduate of North Side High School, class of 1937. She was the owner of Vivian Courtneys Restaurant (formerly Chenaults) in Lake Worth for 58 years. Vivian was active in many civic groups, including the Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club, and several church groups. Vivian had a passion for her family and her business and was truly the matriarch for both. She always had a sparkle in her eye and a place in her heart to help anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Bill Courtney; brother, Orville Surber; parents, W. E. Surber and Effie Surber. Vivian is survived by her children, Bill Chenault and wife, Pat, Lynda Richey and husband, Murray, and Lisa Courtney; grandchildren include Darrian Jones, Ashley Little, Greg Iker-Beck, Stephen Chenault, Courtney Chenault, Daniel Richey, Carrie Richey, Andrea Coffman; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews include Charles Surber and wife, Cheryl, Ken Surber and wife, Peggy, and Jere Surber.
