Obituary

William Michael "Mike" Day, age 69, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022. Service: 1:00 pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Sosebee Memorial Chapel in Canton, Georgia. Interment: 2:30 pm, Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Georgia National Cemetery. Visitation: 12:00 to 1:00 pm, Prior to Service. In lieu of flowers, his family respectfully request donations given to Toys for Tots. Mike was born July 15, 1952 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Charles Henry Day and Melba Joyce (Wilson) Day. He graduated from Holston High School in Knoxville and went to college. Mike attended University of Tennessee at Knoxville and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineer with high honors. Then he went to SMU and received his Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management. Mike married the love of his life Melinda Christine Miller. Together they had two girls, Erica and Candace. Mike was a loving husband, dad, brother, grandfather, and friend. He loved his family more than life itself. Two of his favorite pastimes were astronomy and playing chess. He was in the boy scouts and served in the US Marine Corp for eight years and was a Sergeant. He retired from Lockheed Martin, where he was an engineer. Mike is survived by his wife, Melinda; children, Erica Day and husband, Don Harris and Candace Day and husband, Anthony Baca; grandchildren, Byron Donovan Harris, Logan William Harris, and Evelyn Mossie Day; three sisters, Virginia Charlotte Proffitt, Diane Day, and Helen Long; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.
