Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Evelyn’s memory to the Azle Public Library or to a charity of choice.
Evelyn was born May 17, 1934, in Oil City, Louisiana, to the late Charles Jacobs and Sudia Provenza, next to the youngest of seven children. She and Eli Earl McGilvray married on November 22, 1949, in Shreveport, and had one daughter, Rebecca.
Evelyn was a loving Christian woman, an excellent cook, and a gracious host to the many guests her husband invited into their home. A talented artist, she painted, crocheted and crafted many gifts for family and friends over the years. The McGilvrays mentored and cared for many who were fortunate to come into their sphere of influence, considering each as one of their own. They were also known to financially support a number of young preachers and missionaries. Evelyn was an active member in her church, Heritage Church of Christ, until her health prohibited her from being able to attend.
In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Special thanks to friends Tom Reed, Byron and Jene’ Hunter, and Jeff and Twyla Berry for their loving care of Evelyn over the years; and also to the staff at Renaissance Park for their compassionate care, comfort and dignity this past year.
Survivors: Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Becky of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandson, Alec Revels of New Orleans, Louisiana.; sister, Martha Luetkemeyer of Shreveport, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
